Tuesday 3 May will see the opening of northern Sweden's first - and so far the nation's largest - photovoltaic plant. The inauguration of the PV-cells on the roof of Bostaden's newly renovated building on Matematikgränd 9 will coincide with the Delegation of Sustainable Cities' visit to Umeå.

Time: Tuesday 3 May, 12:30

Place: Matematikgränd 9

Taking part: Peter Örn, chair of the Delegation of Sustainable Cities, Ann-Sofi Tapani, MD of Bostaden, Göran Ernstson, CEO of Umeå Energi

Program for the inauguration

12:30-13:00 Inauguration of the photovoltaic plant

13:00-13:30 Organic lunch in the courtyard

13:30-14:30 Tour of the area

Within the scope of the Sustainable Ålidhem project, the old roofs are rebuilt, and in connection with this, Bostaden trials PV-cells in suitable locations. Umeå Energi is cooperating in order to ensure the technological solutions are optimal, and the development work is carried out in collaboration with Umeå municipality and Umeå University.

The aim is to test renewable energy sources and reduce energy consumption, as an element of ecological sustainability. The PV-cells will be installed on a total 12 buildings in Ålidhem. The entire photovoltaic plant will be complete in 2014, at which point it will have a total surface area of 2,800 m2, the largest in northern Sweden.
